Liam's Dr. Seuss Birthday

In a flash, a year went by. I feel like I blinked and he went from a small little baby that needed us to a big boy that wobbles around and looks for trouble to get into.

Liam's theme for his first birthday was Dr. Seuss and I got most of my ideas from this website, which is basically the holy grail of all things Dr. Seuss. I had been looking and looking for a *theme* for his birthday (only because for me that makes things easier, and I can go NUTS with a theme)...and one day during the summer while I was at Barnes & Noble with the kids I looked up and saw "Oh, the Places You'll Go" ...and thought - that's it! Upon further research (google), I found all kinds of red & aqua parties and well, the rest is history. Billie even started to get a little Obseussed!

The weather was predicted to be cold and rainy (keeping with tradition of all Karczewski birthdays apparently), but it turned out to be a beautiful day.

I was going to order banners from etsy, but was too cheap and decided to make them myself :)

Cakes by the Gingerbread House

I love how these turned out and soooo easy to make!

Sweets table filled with assorted red and turquoise sweets. Thanks to my sister for setting this up in 30 seconds before guests arrived!

Originally I had planned on ordering cupcakes, but I'm too cheap, so I made red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting that I colored turquoise and Seuss' Strawberries (strawberries dipped in white chocolate and then in turquoise sugar - saw it in a magazine for Fourth of July).

Liam's smash cake

Dr. Seuss Birthday Book for everyone to write a message to him

Got this idea from Martha Compton
Lily with Auntie Lisa, visiting from AZ

Liam's favorite part {before his cake} was everyone singing to him - he loves music and singing and was loving his birthday song

And then there was the cake...he did not disappoint, as we knew he wouldn' started slow...

which was very puzzling to all the Big Kids who watched

slowly he gained momentum

and then there was no turning back

Notice that there is also frosting smeared on the tent!

Also frosting thrown out at crowd - Mason was hit in the face

I love this one because it looks like he has a beard!

And that my friends, is what you call a Cake Smash

One tired Baby in the Hat

Thanks to everyone for helping us celebrate Liam's first birthday!
